A NEW KISWA PUT ON THE KHANA KAABA ON THE START OF A NEW HIJIRI YEAR 1444

A New Kiswa On The khana Kaaba

At the start of every new Hijri year, the Khana Ka’aba is donned with a new Kiswa!

This Saturday, when the new Kiswa is installed atop the Kaaba, it will be one of the events that the Islamic world watches the most. The Two Holy Mosques General Presidency will host the recurring celebration the night before the start of the new Islamic year,

Saturday, July 30th, is Muharram 1, 1444. This departs from custom. According to Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, the head of the body, this is a shift from the long-standing custom of changing it the day before Arafat.

A long-standing custom calls for the Kiswa, the Kaaba’s covering, to be changed each year.

When pilgrims departed for the plains of Arafat on the morning of the ninth day of Dhul Hijjah, the Kiswa was previously modified. The Haram was normally deserted at this hour to allow for a peaceful transition.

There till the Hajj of the next year lies the new Kiswa.

The King Abdulaziz Complex

A group of 200 Saudi technicians that are employed at The King Abdulaziz Complex is Responsible for the Kiswa of the Kaaba.

47 pieces of fabric and thread are used at the factory for weaving, stitching, and printing tasks. The operation is carried out using the biggest computerized sewing machine in the world, measuring 16 meters.

Copper rings are used to secure the base to the five pieces of fabric that have been stitched together. Approximately 670 kg of raw silk is colored black at the facility. Verse fragments from the Quran are embroidered on the Kiswa using 120 kilos of 21-karat gold thread and 100 kilograms of silver thread.

The estimated manufacturing cost of a new 850-kilogram Kiswa is SR25 million, or more than $6.5 million. It is now the priciest covering in the world as a result.

From the Religious Ministry:

Early on Saturday, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque added a new cover to the sacred Kaaba (Kiswa).

The religious ministry has postponed this adjustment to the first of Muharram from the original date of 9th Dhul Hijjah.
