GHD has been hired by the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to create a national hydrogen strategy.

National Hydrogen Strategy

25th September 2022, ABU DHABI (WAM) — In order to create its National Hydrogen Strategy, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) stated that it had inked an agreement with GHD Group in collaboration with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, a German research organisation.

The National Hydrogen Strategy will assist in establishing the UAE’s hydrogen vision and helping to inform its policy decisions as one of its energy-mix diversification strategies and Net-Zero targets by 2050. This is all part of the UAE’s Hydrogen Roadmap and ongoing commitment to decarbonization and energy transition.

Energy and Infrastructure Minister Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei said, “We continue to be committed to securing 25% of the largest hydrogen market. Our goal is for the UAE to establish itself as a global expert on the use of hydrogen in the energy transition.

To examine the crucial components required to build a hydrogen strategy in the UAE, GHD initially worked with the MoEI. The National Hydrogen Strategy’s development and implementation by GHD is anticipated to lay the course for a hydrogen economy throughout the UAE.”

According to Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, “As the global hydrogen economy grows through partnerships, investment commitments, and technological advancement, hydrogen may be a decarbonization solution that opens up a variety of market opportunities in the industrial, transportation, and electricity sectors.

The UAE is aware that necessary conditions, including as the right infrastructure, technological preparedness, and market access, must exist for a thriving hydrogen-based economy.”

Specifically for the UAE, Bassam Halabi, Regional Manager for GHD, stated: “In conjunction with Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, GHD is eager to work with the UAE government to build its National Hydrogen Strategy.

We are dedicated to guiding and assisting our customers, partners, and communities as they make the switch to energy that is reasonably priced, dependable, secure, and low-carbon. Through contributions to the UAE’s goal of going net zero, GHD’s collaboration with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, a German organisation, to establish the UAE National Hydrogen Strategy offers a special opportunity to further deepen bilateral ties between the UAE and Germany.”

The Fraunhofer Society is pleased to contribute to the ambitious goals of the UAE for climate neutrality by 2050 by aiding in the development of a National Hydrogen Strategy, said Prof. Dr. Christopher Hebling, Co-Spokesman of the Fraunhofer Hydrogen Network and Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE.
