Vincent Janssen failed to influence the outcome in favour of the Netherlands.

Vincent Janssen Although the Dutch star put out effort, his performance was just ordinary, and one can only assume that he will be given another chance.

Vincent Janssen moved to Belgian club Royal Antwerp in the Jupiler Pro League (Belgian top tier) this past summer after spending three years with Liga MX’s Rayados de Monterrey and participating in the team’s first-ever league championship.

His performance there had gradually declined after he had helped the team win the league title in his first season, and his failure to adapt as many had anticipated had led to this. There, Vincent Janssen has established himself as a consistent starter, starting 13 of their first 17 games, and playing in all of them while tallying 9 league goals.

Not to mention that he secured a starting position after taking part in the Netherlands NT’s last three UEFA Nations League games, in addition to being called up to the national team for the first time since 2017 in June.

The striker’s performance in the team’s opening 2022 World Cup encounter against Senegal satisfied head coach Louis van Gaal enough to start him. After being benched and nearly thrown out of Rayados camp by fans and the front staff, Vincent Janssen narrative is extremely interesting. He now appears to have recovered the quality of performance that allowed him to join Tottenham a few years ago.

Unfortunately for him, things didn’t quite go as he had planned. Don’t get me wrong; Vincent Janssen exerted the same high level of effort that you can usually expect from him. He played really physically and didn’t give the African defenders a chance to get close. However, despite being on the field for mostly offensive purposes, he ultimately fell short of his initial promise.

Janssen played a total of 62 minutes, and in the 40th minute, he served as a post and one-touched the ball with his right boot to Steven Berghuis, who then blasted far above the crossbar. This was his greatest offensive effort. Other than that, he had trouble getting the ball and being useful. Van Gaal substituted Memphis Depay for Janssen in order to create room for the FC Barcelona player.
